Bogiflex : Floating reducer with self-aligning gears

Presentation

The BOGIFLEX is a floating (shaft mount) reducer with self-aligning gear(s), which enables reduction of contact surface defects that exist on standard gear trains where gear wheels turn inside fixed bearings. This means that it is perfect for harsh environments such as high temperatures, severe shocks, distorted materials, vibrations, flexible mountings…

The BOGIFLEX enables transmission of high torque at low speed and has an extremely wide range of reduction ratio.

Features

  • The range: 12 different sizes (from BFT6 to BFT28).
  • High torque range: Up to 10 000 kNm.
  • Reduction ratio up to 10 000.
  • Weight: Up to 50 tons.

Applications

Steel industry : Converters (LD, AOD,...), steel ladle drive, torpedo car, sinter line, sinter breaker, restrainers…

Heavy cylindrical kilns : Kilns and converters for copper, nickel, cement, coal and various dryers...

Sugar industry : Vertical diffusion tower (sugar beet), horizontal diffusion (sugar beet, sugar cane).

Heavy lifting : Crane drums.

Mines, excavation : Bucket wheel and bucket dredger.

Special drives with 0 backlash : large radars

Advantages

  • Pressure and stress spread automatically over teeth.
  • Absorption of energy caused by knocks and/or torque variation control by means of: Torsion bar and / or shock absorber (on shaft mount)
  • Smaller dimensions (module, volume) and lower weight.
  • Possibility of using one or more pinions per drive.
  • Possibility of having a very wide passage of low speed shaft (use of girth gear).
  • Possibility of large hollow shaft diameter (use of wheel with hub).
  • Capacity to absorb momentary high overloading.
  • Adaptable flexibility depending on applications (shocks...).
  • Can withstand flexion, run-out (up to already 150 mm already witnessed!), displacement or distortion of the driven axis.
  • Numerous options (electronic control /predictive maintenance / security devices).
  • Separate components used for assembly – easier to ship and install on site.

Technical description

The AA cross section shows that the pinion and wheel gears cannot mesh on the P end only, as from the moment the load is applied, the tangential effort T which is applied on P and the reaction T’ of the articulated rod FM make a torque which forces the teeth to mesh together on all their face width, thus providing SELF ALIGNMENT OF GEARS.

Possible versions:

BF, BFT, BFP, which mainly differ from each other by the principle of the reaction arm S’ of the gearing component S.
